From director Ben Wheatley (KILL LIST, SIGHTSEERS) comes a psychedelic trip into magic and madness set in 17th century England during the country’s Civil War. A small group of deserters flee from a raging battle through an overgrown field and are captured by an alchemist (Michael Smiley), who forces the group to aid him in his search for a hidden treasure he believes is buried there. Crossing a vast mushroom circle (which provides their first meal), the group quickly descend into a chaos of arguments, fighting and paranoia—and, as it becomes clear that the treasure might be something other than gold, they slowly become victim to the terrifying energies trapped inside the field.

“What a unique filmmaker Wheatley is becoming. From the realms of contemporary social realism, crime, comedy and fear, he has moved on to lo-fi period drama, but cleverly alighted on the one period that suits his stripped-down visuals and subversive instincts perfectly.” —Peter Bradshaw, The Guardian
