Part of Weekend Classics / Oscar Picks: Widescreen Musicals.

Winner of eight Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Director, and Actor (Harrison), MY FAIR LADY is based on a Broadway musical that was based on a play (Pygmalion) which itself was drawn from a poem (Ovid’s Metamorphoses). Pompous phonetics professor Henry Higgins (Rex Harrison) is so sure of his abilities that he takes it upon himself to transform Cockney working-class girl Eliza Doolittle (Audrey Hepburn) into someone who can pass for a cultured member of high society. Higgins and Eliza clash, then form an unlikely bond -- one that is threatened by an aristocratic suitor.
