PARASITE

Winner of 4 Academy Awards for Best Picture, Best Director, Best International Feature Film and Best Original Screenplay (and nominated for Best Film Editing and Best Production Design. Winner of the Palme d’Or at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival, the 2020 BAFTA Awards for Film Not in the English Language and Best Original Screenplay, and the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) award for Best Ensemble.

Meet the Park Family, the picture of aspirational wealth. And the Kim Family, rich in street smarts but not much else. Be it chance or fate, these two houses are brought together, and the Kims sense a golden opportunity.

Masterminded by college-aged Ki-woo, the two Kim children expediently install themselves as tutor and art therapist to the Parks. Soon, a symbiotic relationship forms between the two families. The Kims provide “indispensable” luxury services while the Parks obliviously bankroll their entire household. When a parasitic interloper threatens the Kims’ newfound comfort, a savage underhanded battle for dominance breaks out, threatening the fragile ecosystem between the Kims and the Parks. By turns darkly hilarious and heart-wrenching, PARASITE showcases a modern master at the top of his game. Winner of the Palme d’Or at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival.

“Unquestionably one of the best films of the year…One of the most daring things I’ve seen in years narratively. The film constantly threatens to come apart…but Bong holds it all together, and the result is breathtaking.” —Brian Tallerico, rogerebert.com

“An exhilarating and furious indictment of class struggle…mixing the social outrage of SNOWPIERCER, the wild humor of OKJA, the heartwarming family drama of THE HOST, and the slow-boil vengeance of MOTHER, Bong's latest work is a genre-hopping triumph.” —Barry Hertz, Globe and Mail

“Palme d’Or-winning PARASITE begins as social satire…becom[ing] something else entirely, as satire morphs into a savage underclass morality lesson that recalls the home invasion tales of Michael Haneke and Jordan Peele.” —Peter Howell, Toronto Star

"Ninety-two years of Oscar history were shattered Sunday night when the South Korean hit PARASITE became the first film not in the English language to win the Academy Award for best picture.” —Kyle Buchanan and Brooks Barnes, New York Times

“…At the risk of adding to the hype, PARASITE really is the kind of remarkable experience that makes modern movie-going such a joy. I saw it for the fourth time last week and I’m now desperate to view the black-and-white version that Bong recently unveiled….” —Mark Kermode, Guardian

"It is hard not to watch it rapt and gobsmacked, your jaw permanently near the floor…. It is never anything less than utterly compelling. PARASITE somehow manages to scratch every cinematic itch you have and offers more up you didn’t know you had. Frankly, it’s everything you want from a film. And it’s one you won’t be able to stop talking about.” —John Nugent, Empire

“PARASITE is quite simply a supreme feat of film-making, a tense and hilarious jewel box of a film that draws you deeper and deeper into its wicked, absurdist satire.” —Tom Duggins, Cinevue
