Jerry Lee (Stephen Dorff), awash in guilt after being involved in a hit-and-run that takes the life of a young child, goes to his alcoholic brother (Emile Hirsch) for help. Shaken by the event and haunted by the loss of his former lover (Dakota Fanning), the younger brother arranges for an escape plan for the two as he meditates on the ghosts of his past and weaves stories for the bedridden Jerry Lee. An adaptation of musician Willy Vlautin's 2006 novel of the same name, THE MOTEL LIFE is brimming with the misery and frustration of its complexly screwed up characters while also reveling in the richness of their creativity. Also starring Kris Kristofferson.
