Part of Essentials of Feminist Cinema.
Rich, eccentric and always dressed to the nines, “She” (Tabea Blumenschein) hides her feelings behind a rigid mask, consciously drinking herself to death while on a one-way-ticket drunkard’s tour of Berlin. Along for part of the ride is her polar-opposite in drink, a bruised but totally game street-smart woman She finds in the gutter. FIlmmaker Ulrike Ottinger and her almost entirely female crew present a full-on free fall through the underside of Berlin, complemented by contributions from locals and visitors alike, including Nina Hagen and, again, Eddie Constantine. 35mm print courtesy of the Academy Film Archive.
