DEEP ROOTS: THE ART AND MUSIC OF BILL STEBER AND FRIENDS is the new documentary by acclaimed filmmaker Robert Mugge and serves as companion and bookend to his pivotal 1991 film, DEEP BLUES, which introduced the larger world to Mississippi blues artists R.L. Burnside, Junior Kimbrough, Jessie Mae Hemphill and others. This new feature-length documentary explores the life and work of Middle Tennessee-based musician, photographer and artist Bill Steber, weaving together the musical and visual traditions of the Mississippi Delta and Tennessee’s rich cultural landscape.
Following the screening will be a Q&A with Steber moderated by music journalist Craig Havighurst.
