Sat, May 16 at Midnight: Introduction from Jason Shawhan, senior film critic at the Nashville Scene

The outlandish feature film debut from writer/director Panos Cosmatos (our beloved MANDY) follows a young mute woman with unique abilities who is held captive within the Arboria Institute, a secluded futuristic facility run by a sinister doctor with an unraveling mind and a growing obsession with her. Set in the strange and oppressive emotional landscape of the year 1983, BEYOND THE BLACK RAINBOW is a Reagan-era fever dream inspired by hazy childhood memories of midnight movies and Saturday morning cartoons. Featuring a hypnotic analog synthesizer score by Jeremy Schmidt of Sinoia Caves and outstandingly trippy visuals, this immersive experience is a big screen must for fans of psychedelic cinema.

“For devotees of science-fiction cinema at its most synapse-frying and voluptuously horrifying, the mother lode is exactly what Cosmatos delivers.” —Jason Anderson, Cinema Scope
