Like THE THING, like THE FLT, THE BLOB is one of the ultimate tier of horror remakes, absorbing and exceeding its predecessor and laying waste to all which would come after it. The perfect intersection between the ’50s nostalgia of Reagan-era conformity and the literary Splatterpunk movement (at times feeling like a gonzo tear through Skipp and Spector’s The Bridge), THE BLOB is an imaginative assault on bodily autonomy and a fitting testament to Russell’s memory.
