HARD-BOILED

Part of Golden Princess Hong Kong Cinema Classics

Jazz cop Chow Yun-fat has a rep for defying the boss and bending the rules. Boat-dwelling origami cop Tony Leung is undercover, navigating loyalty between two warring factions. Unbeknownst to both, they’re in pursuit of the same gun-smuggling boss Johnny Wong, who’s storing his stash in a particularly sensitive and unlikely location. High in the echelon of the greatest action films ever made, HARD BOILED would be John Woo’s last film in Hong Kong before decamping to Hollywood. Its 2,300 shots deteriorating in a warped and torn 35mm source, the restoration of HARD BOILED was hard won, earning a special slot at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year.

Principal Cast: Chow Yun-fat, Tony Leung, Teresa Mo, Philip Chan, Phillip Chung-Fung Kwok
