THE KILLER

Part of Golden Princess Hong Kong Cinema Classics

When a retiring Hong Kong hitman (Chow Yun-fat) accidentally blinds an innocent singer (Sally Yeah) during a hit, he needs one last assignment to pay for her surgery. The two develop a wan affection for each other, just as a brotherhood forms between the killer and the idealistic cop (Danny Lee) who has sworn to bring him down. Working once again with Chow Yun-fat — now Hong Kong’s biggest star —  director John Woo takes inspiration from French crime films and ancient Chinese texts in this exquisite dissection of morals in a corrupt society, highlighted with slow-motion sequences of brilliantly choreographed gun battles on the streets of Hong Kong.

Principal Cast: Chow Yun-fat, Danny Lee, Sally Yeh, Kong Chu, Kenneth Tsang

Programmer’s Note: See Chow and Lee back-to-back on Thu, Oct 9: THE KILLER (3:40pm, 8:15pm) and CITY ON FIRE (6:00pm). All films ticketed separately.
