Based on William Goldman’s novel of the same name and staged as a book read by grandfather (Peter Falk) to his ill grandson (Fred Savage), this endearing film offers a tongue-in-cheek fairy tale depicting stable boy-turned-pirate Westley’s (Cary Elwes) journey to rescue his true love (Robin Wright) away from the evil Prince Humperdinck (Chris Sarandon).

“As you watch this enchanting fantasy, feel free to be thrilled or to giggle, as you wish. This time, Happily Ever After lasts 98 minutes.” —Richard Corliss, TIME

“Mr. Reiner seems to understand exactly what Mr. Goldman loves about stories of this kind, and he conveys it with clarity and affection.” —Elvis Mitchell, New York Times
