THE LOVE THAT REMAINS

An artist and a fisherman live with their three children and charismatic sheepdog in the quiet grandeur of the Icelandic countryside. As the fractures in their marriage come to the surface, the couple try to hold onto a life of deep and lingering devotion. Filmmaker Hlynur Pálmason (GODLAND) brings surprising humor and emotional weight to gorgeous, intimate and brilliantly expansive scenes from a marriage, amidst the majestic backdrop of the changing seasons.

“THE LOVE THAT REMAINS occupies the rarified air of a movie that has it all: heartwarming joy, heartwrenching pain, comedy that charms so invasively it gives chills of envy, meditation, action, all shapes and sizes of duration and composition. It’s like a life fully lived — Pálmason’s best film yet.” —Luke Hicks, The Film Stage

“There’s a humane warmth at the movie’s core in its study of a woman separated, but not quite fully, from her husband as they continue to be parents to their children. As the title suggests, this isn’t a film focused simply on the ruins of a relationship so much as one with an eye on what’s worth keeping.” —Zachary Barnes, Wall St. Journal

“There’s an undertow of melancholy certainly, but also a light, buoyant quality to a film that cherishes its moments of humour and absurdity.” —Wendy Ide, Screen Daily
