REMEMBER THE NIGHT

Part of Holiday Classics

Moved by the Christmas spirit, New York District Attorney John Sargent (Fred MacMurray) bails out pretty shoplifter Lee Leander (Barbara Stanwyck) — and offers her a ride home to Indiana. Along the way, they meet each other’s parents and fall in love. John’s mother disapproves though — and warns Lee to stay away. Building masterfully from there, it features a wonderful supporting cast, stylish costumes by Edith Head, a charming script by Preston Sturges, and superb direction by Mitchell Leisen.

“...it has everything, a heart-warming story based on a distinctly unique premise, sparkling comedy which always has a latent heart tug, superlative performances, an excellent script, top notch production and direction.” —The Hollywood Reporter (1940)
