Part of Music City Mondays and Ken Russell x4

Based on the Who’s 1969 rock opera album about a deaf, mute and blind boy who becomes a pinball champion and religious leader. The film featured an ensemble cast, including Roger Daltrey in the starring role, as well as Oliver Reed, Ann-Margret, Elton John, Eric Clapton, Jack Nicholson, Robert Powell and Tina Turner. Written, co-produced and directed by Ken Russell.

“Russell has created what is surely the loudest, most assaultive movie musical ever made and stretched the genre into a new realm — the phantasmagorical nightmare.” —Charles Michener, Newsweek (Mar, 24 1975)

“Ken Russell’s filmization of “Tommy” is spectacular in nearly every way.” —Variety (Dec 31, 1974)
