It’s Christmastime in Reno, where a world-weary gambler (Philip Baker Hall) teaches the tricks of the trade to a luckless young man (John C. Reilly). The debut feature of writer/director Paul Thomas Anderson took a year to hit theaters — by which time Anderson was in production on BOOGIE NIGHTS, further cementing Hall and Reilly as Anderson mainstays.

The iconic duo of Robert Redford and Dustin Hoffman star as the iconic duo of Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein in Alan J. Pakula’s iconic 1976 ripped-from-the-headlines award-winning film. Based on Woodward and Bernstein’s 1974 account of their Pulitzer Prize-winning Washington Post investigation that resulted in the resignation of Richard Nixon.

In a beautifully understated performance, Redford Redford plays a ruthlessly ambitious skier competing for Olympic gold with an underdog American team in Europe, and Gene Hackman provides tough support as the coach who tries to temper the upstart’s narcissistic drive for glory. Astonishing Alpine location photography and breathtakingly fast and furious imagery bring the viewer directly into the mind of the competitor.

Johnny Knoxville and his merry band of maniacs debase themselves for our amusement in this debut entry in the masculinity-skewering Jackass Cinematic Universe.

The Maclean brothers, Paul (Brad Pitt, in a pivotal early role) and Norman (Craig Sheffer), live a relatively idyllic life in rural Montana, spending much of their time fly fishing. The sons of a minister (Tom Skerritt), the boys eventually part company when Norman moves east to attend college, leaving his rebellious brother to find trouble back home. Robert Redford directs Norman McClean’s semi-autobiographical novel in the bucolic splendor of Montana.

Inspired by true events, James Foley (GLENGARRY GLEN ROSS) directs Sean Penn and Christopher Walken as a father-son-duo caught in a violent crime ring. Filmed just outside Nashville, the film blends Southern noir with Brat Pack-era sincerity, featuring Mary Stuart Masterson and Kiefer Sutherland.

Two wacky plumbers undertake a daring quest to save a princess in “Dinohattan” from a diabolical lizard king in this tremendously strange and infinitely divisive adaptation of the beloved video game.
